Even if they did, I'd still trust you over anyone else. Albert though, you really just need his height, don't you? He's all bone these days.

We've been here almost a year and I still don't know when your birthday is.

[He's out and about, purposely avoiding certain places so Undertaker can't guess at where he is.]

[Oh? Goodness, it's almost like someone knows just when to ask him about these things. For his part, he is at home, lazing about, reading something or other. Until that message, that is.]

Milord, whatever brought that up? It isn't a day of importance, after all.

[Ciel is just that good but, really, Undertaker accidentally inspired him.]

Well, Father's birthday is in a few months, Lizzie's is coming up. And you got me that tea and chocolate, it got me thinking. [Not important? Nonsense!] It's important to me. I like knowing the birthdays of people important to me.

[somakemelaugh]

[This Earl. Whatever is he going to do with him?]

I know of your father's. We should do something for him, I think. [A small attempt to change the subject?.... Nah, never mind.] But if you insist, my own was a few days ago. I've almost forgotten it after all of this time.

[sweetlies]

[Indulge him?]

We should. [He'll allow this little distraction.] A few days- why did you let us let it go without anything?

[He can help but be a little disappointed.]

[When he figures that out, he'll try.] I've already thought of a few things we can do for him. Firstly, dump cold water on him to wake him up.

[He giggles madly, but he wouldn't be so cruel, realistically. But that disappointment in the boy's voice calms him quicker than he'd like.] No one cared to ask, and I've never cared since I became what I am. Is it really so bad?

[sweetlies]

[He tries to stifle it but he can't help but laugh a little.] That might be a little mean for a birthday!

I wish I'd asked sooner. [He just feels bad.] No, I suppose it isn't, but I still care.

[somakemelaugh]

[There's that laugh.] Indeed, which is why I'm not serious in my consideration of it. But we'll think of something yet.

You couldn't have known. I wouldn't have offered the information out of my own accord, and I hope you don't bother yourself with it. Those gifts I gave you and your father were a spur of the moment thing. [That just happened to coincide with his birthday is all.]

[sweetlies]

[He's getting better at making Ciel laugh.] I'm sure we will. We have time.

[He's right. There's no way he could have known. He still feels a little bad though.] It's important to me though. You did something for me for my birthday.

[He's going to 'bother himself' with it. Undertaker should know better.]

[Some improvement somewhere, then. It's about time he returned that favor. But not about the birthday!] Kind enough of you to want to know about it, I think. But really, I wouldn't worry about it. Between the two of us, you're the one to have had something terrible happen on a day what should be full of celebration, especially for one so young. I thought you might appreciate something nice, is all.

[sweetlies]

You still did something for me though when almost nobody else would have thought to offer. [And remembered that he liked chocolate best, made him a cake, helped him get his brand removed... Really, Undertaker had gone beyond anything he might have hoped for.]

I do appreciate it. The tea is good. And I'm trying not to finish off the chocolate so fast.

[somakemelaugh]

[Headtiiiiilt.] Would they not? Something tells me you haven't offered them the date of your own birth to give them a chance to help you celebrate it. You did say once that you prefer not to, though I can hardly blame you.

[He shakes his head and shrugs.] Ahh, it survived longer than I thought it would. There's a surprise.

[sweetlies]

[Oh.

Well.

That shuts him up quick. Not for long but it is quick.] My birthday... isn't important.

[He knows Undertaker will disagree though.] It's good chocolate.

[somakemelaugh]

[THAT. Gets a hearty giggle fit out of him.] There now, you see? How can those outside of our world hope to make merry with you on that day if they don't know about it? Yours is just as unimportant as mine is, so why don't we make light of that together?

[Really though, that's just an excuse to get the boy to lighten up a bit. Poor boy.] I'm glad you like it. Maybe next time I'll try my hand and make it myself.

[sweetlies]

[Just a little huff.] ... Doctor Crusher knows.

[Only because of the paperwork they'd had to fill out at the hospital.] And we still kind of celebrated.

[It works. And he smiles again.] I wouldn't mind trying homemade chocolate.

[somakemelaugh]

[Such a huffy boy.] That's good. She proves you wrong already. What a thrill that must be.

[And then, a thought. He lifts a finger to tap at his cheek, rustling a bit of his hair as he does.] Maybe we can try it soon. Do you think you'll be home soon, milord?

[sweetlies]

[Huuuuuuuuufff.

He'll let himself be distracted from the birthday talk though.] I could be. I was just wandering for now, mostly.

[He brightens at the idea of helping though. It sounds fun.]

[He should get a balloon and try it on this huffy boy one day. How big can it get?]

No need to rush it. If you're busy, we can wait for another time. I have to see if we have the right ingredients anyway.

[sweetlies]

[How mean!]

I'm not, I was just wandering really. [Shopping.] I can be home soon. And we haven't got what we need, we can just go and get what we're missing.

[somakemelaugh]

[He never claimed to be nice! Just different.]

Oh? Do we not? [Has Ciel been looking into this behind his back? How very curious!] I'll thank you for that, then, and get a few things ready here. Be prepared to end the day covered in cacao powder, milord.

[sweetlies]

[He's trying to think over everything but he's not as good as Undertaker. He doesn't know what all it might take.]

I think we might be out of cacao powder, actually. Since we've had hot chocolate a few times. [Ciel's had it a few times.] Unless you've gotten more and I missed it?

[Trying not to laugh- trying not to- nope. He laughs.]

[HA. He wins. Come get him, boy.]

My lord, as if I would let us run out. As much as we go through sweets in a week, I know better. Come on home, then. I've a date with the stove and I'm sure you'd rather not miss it.

[He will!]

Oh! I'll be home soon then. [Well. Damn. He could have had cocoa or something earlier but he'll let the thought slide and return home before long.]

DELIVERY (March 28th)

[sweetlies]

[Undertaker will return home from work to find a black upright piano with gold filigree settled in the living room. And with a large pink bow settled around it as well as a small plate with a lopsided and poorly iced cupcake on it on top of the covered keys.

The rest of the unfortunately shaped cupcakes sit in the kitchen.
